Common name: Ghaf
Scientific name: Prosopis cineraria
This magnificent tree occurs in the Arabian
Peninsula, Iran, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan. Growing to 10m in height, it
provides the best shade of all desert tree. Its flowers are important for wild
honey bees. Its branches and dense foliage provides habitat for birds and
reptiles.
Best
grown from seeds , as young trees transplanted from the wild are difficult to
establish. Ghaf trees grow very slowly
in the first year by seeds propagation, but then progress quickly after that
